Huzur Vadisi, Lycia, Turkey
Huzur Vadisi is a retreat centre in forest covered setting of Lycia in south-west Turkey, facing the sparkling aqua waters of Mediterranean sea. The English partners in the centre were bought up in Istanbul and had connections with Turkey.
They wanted to create a centre which promoted and built on local traditions and had links with the community. The other partner is Turkish. Together, they restored and built the traditional farmstead, pool, terraces and accommodation.
Huzur Vadisi is located on the ‘Turquoise Coast’
Only fifteen minutes drive from the Beach, Huzur Vadisi is on Turkey’s ‘Turquoise Coast’ is one of the longer established yoga holiday retreats, having opened its doors in 1993. Since then it has gained a reputation for its warm and efficient hospitality, good food and beautiful natural location in pine forested mountains on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. The retreat is built around a restored traditional rural homestead, to which a natural stone swimming pool and a spacious outdoor yoga shala have been added.
Weekly Holidays from April to October
The programme of weekly holidays runs from April to October and teachers include Simon Low, Michele Pernetta and Katy Appleton. Meaning Peaceful Valley in Turkish, Huzur Vadisi is a traditional olive farm, which provides the oil and olives used in the kitchen. The vegetarian food based on Turkish home cooking, described as ‘legendary’ by Harpers & Queen, also features in a Huzur Vadisi Cookbook.
Yurt and Farmhouse Accommodation
Huzur Vadisi can accommodate up to twenty-eight people in spacious yurts scattered among the olive groves. This simple but comfortable accommodation enhances the experience of being immersed in nature, while at the same time being comfortable and well taken care of is one of the many pleasures of practicing yoga here. The swimming pool is the focus of relaxation, but just over ten minutes by taxi brings you to the contrasting pleasures of the small chic yachting resort of Gocek. There are several opportunities for trips out, including the favourite boat trip around one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful bays.
