Sunflower retreat centre – in the mediaeval village of Casperia, near Rome in central Italy – is a place where visitors can step away from their busy lives and relax, recharge and enjoy the real Italy untouched by mass tourism.

Set amongst the Sabina hills in Casperia – the birthplace of co-founder Alan Scheda – Sunflower Retreats has now been operating for fourteen years, welcoming people from all over the world to this special corner of Italy.

Yoga and holistic retreats

Sunflower offers a range of different yoga retreats with a wide spectrum of international teachers, and they also specialize in a variety of holistic healing treatments for the mind, body and soul.

Creative activities

Some of the many creative activities available for retreat guests include Italian cooking classes, Italian language lessons, water colour painting instruction and salsa dance classes.

Outdoor Activities

With the Sabina mountain range at close proximity to Casperia, there are many walks through the surrounding pine scented countryside. For the more adventurous, horseback riding through the countryside is an option. And for those who prefer a less strenuous stroll, they can walk around the village of Casperia and soak up la vita bella, Italian style.

After an intensive day of yoga, guests can also enjoy some well deserved aqua therapy – with a large outdoor swimming pool close by the yoga deck plus ancient healing hot springs not far away.

Accommodation

Sunflower Retreat centre offers a variety of accommodation options to visitors; from village houses to boutique-style lodgings including an Italian ‘palazzo’ all within the medieval village of Casperia. Many of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms.

Ethical Business

Sunflower has an ethical business policy, supporting the rural community of the Sabina Hills economically by bringing groups to Italy who – by living and spending in the community – benefit local businesses from craft shops to farmers. Sunflower retreats renovate and use village houses for their accommodation, create local employment and work with the community in order to enhance the village economy and integrate the concept of eco-tourism into the culture of Sabina. They also contribute part of their profits to support local festivals and functions each year.
