Villa Sumaya, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala
Villa Sumaya in the highlands of Guatemala is a full service retreat center and hotel perched at fifteen hundred metres above sea level on the picturesque shores of Lake Atitlan in an area that is sacred to the local indigenous people.
With a stunning view that takes in no less than three volcanoes, Villa Sumaya is the perfect place for the adventurer to explore pristine nature and the romantic to retreat, reflect and replenish.
Since holding their first retreat nine years ago, Villa Sumaya has become popular with yoga teachers from North America and around the world for holding teacher trainings, retreats and workshops.
Villa Sumaya Accomodation
With beautifully appointed accommodation for up to thirty-three people at a stretch in fifteen guest rooms – from treetop bungalows for the single traveller seeking privacy to big family rooms in middle of the action – Villa Sumaya is great for small or large groups. What started out as a guest house is now a well equipped retreat facility complete with a swimming pool, café, hot tub, juice bar, a boutique, massage rooms all surrounded by lush tropical gardens.
Two Yoga Spaces
Yoga is practised at one of two temples at Villa Sumaya – Blue Tiger and White Tara. Both temples are world class group facilities with palm roofs, simple lines and unique Asian inspired motifs. Blessed with panoramic vistas of the lake, hardwood floors and flooded with natural light via a glass pyramid skylight, these rooms are ideal for yoga and meditation workshops or conferences and think tanks. The Blue Tiger Temple is 1000 square feet (fits 28 people for yoga) and the White Tara Temple is 700 square fee (fits 16 people for yoga) – with each one totally independent of the other. Both rooms have attached bathrooms, yoga and meditation props and excellent sound systems.
Activities
With extra curricular activities that range from hikes to the volcanoes, cultural tours, swimming in the lake, kayaking, diving, weaving demonstrations and massage to an immersion in more esoteric subjects like shaman ceremonies and oracle readings – there is something to spark all tastes and interests here in this lakeside hideaway.
Villa Sumaya has special rates for group bookings for a minimum four night stay. For more information, Make an Enquiry.

The grounds, the lake, the staff and Yoga temples are all incredible.
