Yoga Rocks, Crete, Greece

When the opportunity to run a retreat centre in Greece was presented to them, Helen and Phil felt that fate, ever present in the literature of ancient Greece, had intervened to offer them something they couldn’t refuse.

Helen has taught yoga for many years, and Phil has also taught yoga, and has complimentary skills in Thai yoga massage. His father was from Crete, where Yoga Rocks is located. Both of them had worked in tourism and yoga and travelled the world before starting Yoga Rocks, so opening the retreat centre on the stunning island of Crete was the perfect opportunity to put all their skills and knowledge into action.

The centre is set on the rocky coastline of this ancient isle, and has an awe-inspiring mountain backdrop that extends some two thousand four hundred meters into the sky. Some extra curricular activities include swimming in the sparkling aqua waters of the Mediterranean sea, snorkelling, walking along the mythical coastline where according to ancient legends, young men and maidens were periodically sacrificed to the Minotaur, a ravenous monster from the labyrinth.

Luckily, Crete is long free of monsters and you can enjoy relaxing strolls uninterrupted by ravenous creatures from the deep. There are also caves within walking distance, where perhaps King Minos convened in secret with his closest advisers a few thousand years ago.

Yoga Rocks accommodates up to twenty guests, all in ensuite rooms with sea views and balconies. There are indoor and outdoor yoga spaces, a stunning pool, a hammock lounge where you can chill out after a strong yoga session, and a guest kitchen for those times when you just have to have a mango smoothie!
