Akasha Wellness Retreat is a brand new retreat just opened in the mountains of Transylvania in Romania. Located at 1,500 metres above sea level, the views across the valleys are spectacular.
Founded by the dynamic mother and daughter duo, Daniela and Irina Railneau, and opened in November 2016, Akasha Wellness Retreat is the realisation of a dream for them, a dream in which you can share.
“We realised there is more to life than cities. That’s the bottom line. We realised we wanted to live in symbiosis with nature, far from the crowds, pollution and coldness of city life. That’s when we decided to give up the so called comforts of our life in London, move to rural Romania & create a space that was in line with our personal & spiritual values. In our “previous lives” we were doctors, business & finance professionals with hardly any time to step on our yoga mat once a week or so.
One day, our practice of yoga & meditation literally changed our lives, we became healthier & happier and that’s what we ultimately believe everyone can do. Mind, body & soul interconnect, all it’s needed is space & time to just R/E.LAX.
AKASHA came to us as a natural progression after travelling the world in search of places with the same real life connection to tradition, unspoiled natural abundance, organic produce & above all, a place where meditation & yoga is an integrated part of daily life & a community that supports it.
And so, we begun building the concept of AKASHA and like us, it turns out, there are others. Talented yoga instructors, volunteers & community members that all believe in our mission.”

A Mountain Hideaway with Stunning Views
Akasha is perched high up in the Transylvanian mountains, in the charming rural village of Pestera. Affording absolutely breathtaking views of the rolling green (or white, in winter!) hills dotted with villages, you can easily enter into a blissful meditative state just taking it all in from the balcony. In the warmer months, take a walk up the country roads, either with friends or accompanied by one of the friendly retreat dogs. You will meet smiling farmers on the way to market in the horse and cart, and local villages who will be happy if you learn a few words of greeting in Romanian.
Akasha Wellness Retreat is a boutique retreat centre with capacity for a maximum of 20 guests. So you will get the full and personalised attention of the yoga teachers and therapists during your stay.
Hatha Yoga includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (yoga breathing exercises), which help bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation.
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga in which poses are held for five minutes or longer. Even though it is passive, yin yoga can be quite challenging due to the long holds, particularly if your body is not used to it. The purpose is to apply moderate stress to the connective tissue – the tendons, fascia and ligaments – with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.
Ashtanga Yoga brought to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The resident teacher will lead students through one or more of the ashtanga series, Each being a set sequence of asanas, always in the same order. It is typically fast-paced, vigorous and physically challenging.
The R/E.TREAT accommodates a maximum of 20 guests at one time in 10 boutique bedrooms. Each of our guest bedrooms is special to us and each has handmade decor items, a blend of modern romantic with natural elements from within our environment.
Sacred Cacao Ceremony & Yoga combination results in a deep connection between the brain and the heart as raw cacao increases blood flow and tissue oxygenation. By combining yoga & cacao we are guided on a journey of heart opening with greater clarity and focus of the mind. Ceremonial cacao is an ancient plant medicine, a wisdom keeper, a teacher and facilitator.
