Casa Trecasiedde is a the result of a commonly held dream for the Italian family from Bari who bought the original seven trulli (traditional round hand built stone houses of Puglia) in 1992.
Situated between Martina Franca and Ostuni, inland from Bari in the lush and beautiful Puglian countryside, Trecasiedde consists of three different groups of trullis forming three distinct houses.
Nestled among olive groves, and blessed by holm oaks and abundant fig trees, and animated by a birdsong and the soft melody of bamboo wind chimes, you cannot help but unwind and relax at Trecasiedde. The magic of nature gets deep into your heart and reconnects you with your own deepest nature: peace.
Lovingly restored by the family over many years, the interiors of Trecasiedde reveal a refined and elegant sense of taste, the duck egg blue of the window frames contrasting beautifully with the white domed ceiling and walls. It is no surprise to discover that two of the family members are architects. The small touches like the iconic artichoke shaped Puglian ceramics, as well as sheets and cushion covers embroidered by the family’s grandmother really make you feel like you have been welcomed into a sanctuary where elegance and beauty reign.
And what could be more magical than sleeping like a princess or a prince under the magnificent domed trulli ceiling which has sheltered who knows how many ancient Puglians in centuries past?
Housing up to 11 guests (if the three trulli are rented together), the outdoor spaces are a mix of white stone paved areas (great for meditation or yoga in the morning and evening) and some quiet nooks and crannies where you can spread out and bathe in the the sun on the warm limestone bedrock.
Close by are the white stone towns of Cisternino, Locorotondo and Ostuni. All built from the limestone that is also what the trulli are built from, in the evening, these towns are literally glowing, as the white stones that pave the streets, smoothed by the walking of countless millions of feet through the ages – reflect the soft yellow glow of the street lights.
Locorotondo (the name meaning round place) is a town straight from the pages of a fairly tale book, breathtakingly beautiful on approach with its curved line of ancient houses built on top of the hill, fortified by terraces and a stone wall and commanding a spectacular view over the valley of Itria. Meandering through the streets of the old town, each corner reveals a new hidden secret: a white stone arch guarding the entrance to a tiny house, a flash of bright pink Geraniums adoring the green door of another, or a shop selling the most exquisitely made fine lace adorning blouses, aprons, sheets – and even as earrings, made by the grandmothers of Locorotondo.
Trecasiedde is available for rental according to your needs. A perfect setting for an intimate yoga or meditation retreat, or even for your own personal retreat, don’t miss the chance to come and spend some time here deep in the tranquil and magical Puglian countryside.
