Nora Mangiamele

Nora Mangiamele, like many yogis, didn’t purposely plan to become a teacher; circumstances just conspired to make that happen! She had been studying and practicing with her teacher for a number of years, when one day the teacher had to go out of town, and asked Nora to take over all of her classes.

A natural path into teaching

Having never actually taught yoga before, she was quite surprised at how easy it felt. As she says ‘I never wanted to teach, just to practice all day!!

After teaching for a few years, she took a teacher training and though she admits she kind of had things a bit backwards, it actually worked out quite well for her. Given her teaching experience, she already had her own style, as so didn’t feel like a ‘cookie cutter’ type of student. She felt more like a cross between a teacher and a student, learning more techniques to complement her own style.

Leading Retreats Worldwide

Though Nora Mangiamele found teaching yoga in studios rewarding, she also felt that it was very limiting. Not one to shy away from a risk or a challenge, she took the leap to start leading retreats in beautiful places around the world. And she was surprised and pleased that people actually showed up! Thanks to these initial retreats, she met more and more people from diverse corners of the globe, who started inviting her to their countries to teach. She then started looking for new beautiful countries she wanted to see, and from there investigated opportunities to teach in these countries.

Between her new contacts inviting her to teach in different places, and her own exploration of different possibilities, she started to combine teaching and travelling.

Though she admits it can be difficult sometimes to be far away from home, if you are someone who has a love for travel, and a love for yoga, and can go with the flow, then this provides for quite an enriching and interesting life.

Vinyasa and Yin Yoga

Nora teaches a vinyasa flow style of yoga as well as yin yoga. For those expecting a regular series of postures, you won’t find that with her, as her vinyasa flow is never by the book. She likes to be constantly creative and invent new ways to get in and out of poses. For Nora, yin yoga is the hidden jewel of yoga. By deep, long hold stretching, every style of yoga is easier and deeper physically and emotionally.

Nora maintains a strong self-discipline on her travels, always practicing either alone or with other yogis. This enhances her teaching, which is constantly evolving and developing thanks to her experiences teaching in different countries, each with its own culture that classes and teaching styles need to adapt to.
