Radical Self Love Yoga + Elephant Retreat, Thailand
June 15 @ 12:00 pm - June 21 @ 12:00 pmUS $1375
Want to join us in Northern Thailand?
Love yoga? Love elephants? Curious to get to know Thailand?
Join us on this retreat at the Never Forget Elephant Foundation in Northern Thailand, near Chiang Mai. The Never Forget Foundation was set up to rescue elephants that have been used and abused in the tourism industry in Thailand. Their goals are simply to return captive elephants home to their natural jungle habitat while at the same time support the local Karen tribespeople in providing them sustainable solutions for elephant and environmental heath, while also galvanising the global community (you) in support of this worthy cause.
Here at The Global Yogi, we love to support amazing people doing great work in the world, and rescuing elephants while supporting sustainable jobs in Thailand is a perfect fit for us!
At this retreat, we will combine yoga asana, pranayama and meditation, with daily workshops on Self Love, as well as visits with the beautiful elephants of the foundation.
Over these 7 days and 6 nights we will be dedicated to reconnecting with ourselves, and learning to love and care for ourselves in brand new ways.
We will be practicing yoga, meditation and connecting deeply with the breath each day.
We will use Ayurvedic teachings and understandings of the human mind body system for creating vibrant health, introspection and journalling practices for self-exploration and self-discovery and there will be optional Reiki and Massage treatments on offer as well.
Why Radical Self Love?
- Self-love is the heart of a healthy life.
- If you don’t love and care for yourself, you are not able to love and care for others.
- In order to give to others we need first to fill our own cups with self-love and self-care.
There are lots of reasons why we may not be as loving towards ourselves as we could be, usually because we learnt our models of loving ourselves through our parents and caregivers who most likely had their own difficulties with loving themselves. In order to love ourselves fully we need to develop an ongoing loving relationship with ourselves.
- We let go of self judgement,
- We fully accept ourselves,
- We honour ourselves and where we are on life’s journey,
- We forgive ourselves quickly and easily for our mistakes,
- We develop a relationship with our inner child,
- We listen to our hearts,
- We follow our intuition and
- We develop loving and healthy relationships with others.
We will be diving into all of these themes during this retreat in our Self Love workshop sessions. Tools we will use include: group sharing (nobody is ever obliged to share), journalling, narrative therapy (re-framing our stories), eye gazing meditations, and guided meditations.
We will be investigating obstacles to self love such as:
- People pleasing
- Not going after your dreams (why? – staying safe and not being too ‘big’)
- Childhood patterns of relating based on family relating systems and patterns
- Fear and anxiety
- Self worth and where it comes from (Hint: it’s inherent – we can’t get it from outside us).
Yoga and Meditation Practices
The yoga offered at this retreat will be Ashtanga Vinyasa style in the mornings, which is an active yoga, based on the Ashtanga primary series. In the afternoons we will be practising Yin and Restorative yoga. This retreat is recommended for people who already have a regular yoga practice, preferably in an active style such as Vinyasa or Ashtanga yoga, but if you have a regular strong Hatha practice it might also be a fit. The level will be intermediate, but adjusted to whoever is present on the retreat.
We will be investigating all the different postures from the perspective of self love and self care, with the aim that you can come away from the retreat with a yoga practice for yourself that you can do at home.
Our meditations will be focused on staying present with the breath and becoming mindful of the bodily sensations as they arise and fall away, thus bringing us into harmony with the present moment.
There will also be daily guided meditations on self-love relating to the theme of each day.
We will be praticising Insight Meditation each morning (from the Buddhist Vipassana tradition). Each morning we will build on our meditation practice from the previous day. Some sessions will be guided breathing mediations, and others will be fully guided meditation practice.
In the afternoons we will be doing a yin based or restorative yoga practice.

The Never Forget Elephant Foundation has a dedicated yoga shala to host the retreats, and guests are housed in jungle style hut accommodations. They provide us with three lovely plant based meals per day along with tea and coffee as needed.
We will be visiting the elephants during free time in the afternoon as a part of this experience, connecting with these beautiful creatures who have been rescued from a life of bondage and slavery in the tourist or forestry industries.
The opportunity to be up close and personal with Thai elephants in their natural jungle habitat is a once in a lifetime experience that you will have on this retreat. Part of the price for this retreat will also go towards helping the foundation continue with their mission in rescuing and supporting more and more elephants in Northern Thailand, so expanding this wildlife sanctuary for generations to come.
We will be staying in simple bamboo jungle huts with mattresses on the floor; very much close to nature so this retreat may not be for the ‘non-camper’ sort of person!
The huts don’t have their own bathrooms – there will be three shared bath / shower facilities available, with cold water showers. It will be hot at this time of year in tropical Thailand so the cold showers will be refreshing.
As we will be in the jungle, we will be sharing it with jungle creatures such as frogs, geckos, lizards, birds, not to mention the friendly elephants.
Food will be freshly prepared vegetarian and vegan food made by local chefs in Thai style. Fresh tasty vegetarian treats in the jungle!
Price for full board – accommodation, food and all teachings is US $1375.
To reserve your spot on this retreat, you will need to pay a deposit of US $200 to the Never Forget Elephant Foundation, then later the balance of US $675 to them, and US $500 directly to The Global Yogi.
